Skipton Building Society for Intermediaries expanded its team of Business Development Managers (BDMs) by introducing the telephone BDM team in 2017.

And over the last 2 years, the telephone BDMs have demonstrated their ability to make things easier for brokers, even in difficult circumstances.

I joined the team in December 2019 and, less than 4 months into the role, was sent to work from home due to the pandemic. With the word ‘lockdown’ across the news, day to day life felt alienating. But as a team, we quickly worked to adapt our way of working accordingly. We created localised webinars to cascade information, kept brokers informed by sending out policy updates, and held appointments both on Microsoft Teams and via the phone.

The pandemic provided opportunities for innovation and over the last couple of years, I have been proud to work on our Skipton Talks Webinars - which were born during the lockdown to provide national updates on policy and criteria, news and industry insights. I have loved being involved with the making of these and even challenged myself to present at webinar in 2021.

Alongside the Skipton Talks national webinars, the Telephone BDM team also created two specific webinars aimed at new and existing brokers, which are available to view now.

The 'welcome' webinar: is a refresher session delivered by Chris, Jack and Sam for brokers who are new to Skipton Building Society for Intermediaries and want to learn more about what we offer.

Watch the webinar to:

The ‘welcome back’ webinar: is presented by me, Hannah and Natasha and is for brokers who haven’t used our services for a while and want to get back in-the-know.

So, who are the Telephone BDM team?

Here’s a short introduction from each team member and detail of the areas they cover.

‘After working with the newly formed TBDM team in its early stages in 2018, I was delighted to come back on board in 2021 and look forward to steering us in the direction of growth, efficiency and flexibility to further support brokers. I’ve been with the Society for 8 years and my experience of people leadership and passion for driving change and progress is what I bring to the table.’

- Jenny Goodall, Intermediary Lead.

‘I studied at Jonkoping International Business School in Sweden for a year. I’ve also worked in our Skipton Direct customer contact team and as a Mortgage Advisor Support Consultant.'

- Chris Smith, who looks after: South Wales, Bristol, and Bath.

‘I bought my first home when I was 18 and my second at 22. I’ve worked at Skipton Building Society since 2018 and I joined the TBDM team in December 2019.’

- Lauren Copping and I look after: Countrywide.

‘I lived in Ontario, Canada for four months on a ‘study abroad’ programme and have a degree in forensics and neuroscience. During my four years with Skipton, I’ve worked in supervisory roles as well as on the Broker Support team.’

- Jack Tidswell who looks after: South East.

‘I helped to set up an Intermediary Support team and became a subject matter expert. I’m now proud to work in the TBDM team, supporting brokers.’

- Sam Patefield who looks after: Just Mortgages, Embrace, Sandringham, St James’s Place.

‘I once (unbelievably) gave up chocolate for a year. I’ve also worked at Skipton for over seven years – and all of that time has been spent within the mortgage side of the business.’

- Hannah Garside who looks after: Scotland.

‘I became Skipton’s first telephone BDM back in 2017 and helped get Joint Borrower, Sole Proprietor into our policy. My favourite place in the world is the Glastonbury festival and I’m lucky enough to have been four times.’

- Natasha Moulds who looks after: Connells Group.

We’re a close-knit team, with a common aim - to support you and make the broker experience as smooth as possible, so if you need any help and assistance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
