Whistleblowing

We recognise that trusted, confidential whistleblowing arrangements are key to an open and honest culture. We encourage everyone who works for us, or with us, to speak out whenever they witness or suspect any wrongdoing or misconduct.

Whistleblowing at Skipton

We are committed to ensuring that all concerns raised are investigated thoroughly and fairly.

All investigations follow a robust governance and decision-making process. If evidence of wrongdoing is found, appropriate action will be taken.

Our Whistleblowing Champion is Iain Cummings, who is responsible for overseeing the integrity, independence and effectiveness of our whistleblowing policy and procedures whilst protecting whistleblowers from being victimised or treated differently for having disclosed reportable concerns.

What should I report?

Please report any knowledge or suspicion of wrongdoing, such as:

  • Bribery, fraud or other criminal offence.
  • A risk to colleague and/or public health and safety.
  • A risk or actual damage to the environment.
  • Discriminatory behaviour.
  • Someone covering up wrongdoing.
  • A breach of any other legal or professional obligation.

You don't need proof, just a reasonable belief that something is not right.

How to report a concern

To report a concern, you can speak to Safecall, through their free and confidential 24/7 service, where their trained operators will support you through your report. Safecall also provide an online reporting form if you prefer.

We would encourage you to provide your details in order to aide us with our investigations, however you also have the option to make your report anonymously and Safecall will discuss this with you.

Whilst you don’t need to provide evidence, please provide clear details about where and when the issue occurred and any evidence you have, to help our investigation. If you are worried about providing any personal information, you can also choose to provide contact details to Safecall only, which will not be disclosed to the Society.

This helps the investigator to make sure they fully understand the issue and potentially leads to a better outcome. Depending on the nature of the concern if we can, we will also let you know the outcome.
