Community Giving recipients

2021 was another successful year for Community Giving and we couldn’t have done it without your help. Thanks to you, 40 causes that carry out essential work in support of housing and helping the homeless received a £1,000 donation. Scroll down to see the full list of recipients and to read some of their stories.

The Good Shepherd

The Good Shepherd Ministry in Wolverhampton provides shelter, food and clothes to the homeless community in Wolverhampton.

"We would just like to say many thanks to all at Skipton Building Society for such a generous grant from the Community Giving programme. At the Good Shepherd we provide a daily food service for those in need, but this is often the magnet to draw people in who need help and support in other areas of their lives.

This also applies to the families who access the charity, and we recently set up a Family Food Hub where families can choose their own food from a shop-style facility, rather than must queue for a food parcel.

Your kind donation will help us maintain our food stocks in the Family Food Hub not only to ensure that no one goes hungry but also setting up positive working relationships where we can provide additional help and support."

Launchpad Reading

Launchpad is a homelessness prevention charity based in Reading, providing vital information and support for individuals, couples and families who don’t have a stable place to live or are at risk of losing their home.

"Thank you for your kind donation. As I’m sure you can imagine, our services have been in demand more than ever before, and your kind donation helps to ensure that people who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes are seen, heard and supported. The past 12 months have most certainly have not been easy, but despite the challenges, we have continued to support the most vulnerable in our community.

We couldn’t do it without you. On behalf of our clients, our staff, and volunteers, thank you again for your generosity and support."

The Gingerbread Centre

Two small children pet young lamb through a fence

The Gingerbread Centre aims to provide a stable and secure environment in a supportive and non-oppressive atmosphere. They provide supported accommodation for up to 22 homeless families including single parents, pregnant women, and couples with children.

“Children can be severely affected by homelessness, but every child has the right to play regardless of their circumstances. We run an activity club with the aim of both giving children social skills and engagement opportunities while at The Gingerbread Centre, but also just a chance just to have fun!

The activities are varied and, in addition to those based at the centre, they also include walks to the park, which will encourage the children and young people to feel healthier and happier, encouraging a better outlook on life and hopefully leading to increased emotional wellbeing. Outings to local discovery walks, a farm, the zoo, different museums, the library and to see a local pantomime also take place.”

“The money raised will go towards providing homeless young people with safe and stable accommodation, support for homeless young people’s physical and mental health and access to training and education.”

When we launched Community Giving in 2019, we knew there was a lot of charitable activity in the intermediary community. What we didn’t appreciate was the scale it was happening on. Community Giving has raised our awareness of the great work that’s being done out there and the absolute passion and enthusiasm it’s being done with. We’re so pleased to be able to support that.
